The Silver Pencil- Monthy Book Review @ Hannah's Hangout

This is my first monthly book review and I just finished this book not more then 30 seconds ago! I am going to review the book: The Silver Pencil a Newberry Medal book by Alice Dalgliesh. Janet is given a silver pencil one Christmas from her father. Soon afterwords her father dies from a heart attack. After this Ms. Dalgliesh tells Janet's story a twist of ups and downs. I loved this book and rate it 4/5 stars. Overall this was a good story and I couldn't put it down. I recommend it for ages 10+. Happy Reading!

Background

I have decided to take off my background. It was taking too long for my blog to load. Sometimes it wouldn't load at all for me. I might be adding it back in the future but for now you will have to endure with a plain white background. Have a great day!

Fun and some surprises!

Yesterday my mom and I went shoe shopping at Bass. I got two new pairs of winter boots! I am so excited! One pair is for the snow and the other are more dressy. They are both really comfy. Sometime soon we are going to spray the dressier pair with waterproofing spray so they will be good for the snow! I couldn't get very good photos of them but at least you can tell what they look like. :-)

Also yesterday we set up our Christmas tree and train! It was really fun and I really like how it turned out!

And now for the surprises! We saw a deer out our front window! It was really surprising cause we live in a city. I have no idea were she came from but it was pretty amazing! :-)
Sorry about the bad picture.

Yummy and Quick Recipe!

I love recipes that are really quick and easy. Don't you? This cheese potato soup is really good!
28 oz. chicken broth(64 oz water and 2 large cubes)
1 cup of instant mashed potato flakes
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 baked potato, chopped

Heat broth in medium saucepan at med-high until boiling. Add instant potato flakes. Remove from heat.(Add more flakes for a thicker soup) Add potato and cheese. Stir until smooth. Garnish with chopped cooked bacon.

Really yummy and it only takes about 15 min! Serves 4-6.

Done!!!

I can't believe it! I am done with my novel! *Faints* I will not be posting my book on here. But here is a little information about it:

Halfway Across the Country
By Emilie Hockman

Sara thinks her life is great: a dog of her own, a great school, her mom being the owner of Newport Animal Rescue, the prefect house, and list goes on and on. But then one day her mom announces that their Dad's job is moving them from South Dakota to Florida! They are going to sell the rescue center. Things will never get better. Or will they?

Back to writing!

I'm done with my break and back to writing! I have a pretty good idea of what I am going to write next..... and you are just going to have to wait and see. :-) I had better get writing because my cousins are coming to our house for the first time and we've lived here for 9 years! *Gasp* Yay! I can't wait!!!
Lost in the land of writing,

A break and some funny sayings.

Here are some funny sayings I found a while ago:
1. Only in America......you can get a pizza to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America......are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America......do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America......do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a DIET coke.

5. Only in America......do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

7. Only in America......do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

8.Only in America......do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

9. Only in America......do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

10. Only in America......do they have drive-up ATM's with Braille lettering.

11. Further.........you did not notice that #6 was missing?

In case you needed further proof that the human race is doomed through stupidity, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods:

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while sleeping. ( that's the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bag of Fritos:! ..You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (the shoplifter special)?

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that would be how???....)

On some Swanson frozen dinners: "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but, it's "just" a suggestion).

On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom): "Do not turn upside down." (well...duh, a bit late, huh)!

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding: "Product will be hot after heating." (...and you thought????...)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron: "Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine: "Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those 5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and.. .I'm taking this because???....)

On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only." (as opposed to...what?)

On a Japanese food processor: "Not to be used for the other use." (now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sunsbury's peanuts: "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a newsflash)

On Japanese knife: "Keep out of children." (Wow, that never occured to me.)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts: "Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts." (Step 3: maybe, uh...fly Delta?)

On a child's superman costume: "Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly." (I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this one.)

On a Swedish chainsaw: "Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands." (..was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

My NaNoWriMo novel is coming along great! Since I have written 2855/5000 words and I am 57.10% done I have decided to take the day off writing. Well I need to practice paino,

Fun at Rebecca's house!

Today Rebecca and I from http://beccaslife82.blogspot.com posed/played on her blue horse.
Lol. Actually I have no idea where she got it. I have been over to her house tons and I have never seen it. Yet she has a picture of her on it when she was about two. I have no idea why she had it out but anyway when I walked in the door it was out. That is when the fun started!
We turned on the webcam photo taking program and started playing while taking a ton of pictures! It was really fun trying to think up different "poses". :-)
We had a couple of "accidents" where we rocked the horse so hard we fell over. Lol.
